Elbit Systems Ltd., Israel’s largest non-government-owned defense company, said Sunday that its Brazilian subsidiary, Ares Aeroespacial e Defesa S.A., signed a $100 million framework contract to supply the Brazilian army with remote-controlled weapon stations.
The 12.7/7.62 mm Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (“RCWS”) named REMAX, and the associated equipment and services, will be supplied over a five-year period.
The first order, for approximately $7.5 million, has been received, Elbit said in a statement.
Specifically designed by Ares to meet the requirements of the Brazilian Army requirements, Ares’s REMAX systems have been tested and fielded in Brazilian Army Guarani 6X6 vehicles, the statement said.
The REMAX is a weapon station for 12.7/7.62 mm machine guns and will be used in armored vehicles and logistics vehicles that are used in combat to transport troops, for border patrol and peace keeping missions.
“Brazil is a very important market for Elbit Systems,” said Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems.
“We have witnessed a growing demand for RCWS all over the world and we trust that further customers will follow and acquire our advanced and mature weapon stations.”
Latin America accounted for 10 percent of Elbit’s revenues in 2015, with the US accounting for 27 percent of sales and Israel 20%, according to data provided by the company.
Elbit and its subsidiaries manufacture defense systems for military and civilian and military use, in the fields of communications, aerospace, land and naval systems, drones and advanced electro-optical systems.
